Interesting article... There are lots of good examples of "second mover advantage" out there, Amazon being one of them--- they learned from the mistakes of little known company BookStacks, which basically did the same thing as they did long before them...

Thanks for the insight and example! "Second mover advantage" may not be as glamorous as "first mover advantage," but there's a lot to be learned from the mistakes of others. In the case of the iPad, it will be interesting to see which companies represent this second wave of entrants.

As to your question about is first-mover advantage overrated in the business world, i would have to say No, they aren't overrated. Movers are an untapped resource, and we'll be seeing a lot more of that in the future.
